Job Description:
Title: Research Associate Department Org: Surgery - 110400 Job
Description: This role is responsible for general lab operations
and will conduct experiments within the Department of Surgery
Surgical Research Programs. Requires administrative support for the
Integrated Core Facilities (ICF). This role will coordinate the
activities of the Electron Microscopy Facility related to
educational and research activities, such as ordering supplies,
budget projections, scheduling of microscope use and outreach
activities and maintaining a log of facility users (microscope use,
grant applications, and abstracts and publications). Performs
complex technical work involved in preparing sample materials for
electron microscopy. are routine job functions. Using 3D
reconstruction, image and elemental analysis software will also be
routine applications required for the position. Responsible for
assisting faculty, postdoctoral researchers, staff, and
collaborators in advance microscopy techniques and methodologies.
Supports other activities in the Advanced Microscopy Core
Laboratory when needed such as maintaining, operating, and training
users on current microscopy instrumentation in the Integrated Core
Facilities and helping with histology services and multiphoton
confocal microscope. Minimum Qualifications: Required
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: • Master's or equivalent
- OR - Bachelor's plus at least two (2) years of post-Bachelor’s
work experience. • Experience in a role that is at a research
assistant level or higher. • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience
in microscopy and ability to train others is required. • Excellent
interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals of
diverse range of customers, including different learners. •
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. •
Excellent organization skills required. • Exceptional computer
skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite required. •
Excellent problem solving required. • Must have the ability to
complete and maintain mandatory training, per the University
mandatory training policy. • Able to work with both biological and
physical science samples required. • Demonstrated technical
expertise (depth of knowledge and ability) in microscopy. •
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on
equipment. • Functional breadth of knowledge and ability across
microscopy platforms. • Demonstrated work habits that emphasize
quality and a high standard for interpersonal interactions,
organization, initiative, team spirit, decision-making, work ethic
and safety. • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and multitask.
• Proficient computer skills. • Knowledge of laboratory safety
protocols • Proficient in handling rodents, conducting rat/mouse
surgeries, and writing animal protocols for IACUC approval,
genotyping, sequencing, cloning, inputting data collected from
rodent experiments into data analysis programs. • Proficiency
utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Power
Point • Solutions focused. Willing to bring creative
problem-solving skills to challenges. • Maintain a deep
understanding of laboratory processes and animal protocols to
ensure effective troubleshooting of assays and instrumentation. •
Electron microscopy techniques Preferred Qualifications: • Ten (10)
years of experience managing a laboratory. • Experience in
purchasing, accounting, and website development. • Experience
working in an academic center is desirable. • Independent and able
to prioritize and manage multiple projects. • Broad knowledge base
in bioinformatics and molecular biology techniques and electron
microscopy. • Experienced with optics and advanced microscopy
techniques. • Familiarity with electron microscopy, confocal, image
analysis, advanced microscopy and/or fluorescent microscopy
