    ROLE SUMMARY

    The BCPS District is seeking exceptional, inspired, equity-driven teacher to guide its schools into the next chapter of even greater academic excellence.

    This science teacher will have instructional facilitation for:

    Sixth Grade Science where students explore earth science by engaging in various activities that will deepen their knowledge. The following earth science themes will be covered this school year: Weather, Climate, and Me; The Planet Rock; and Earth: Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow. Students will also engage in inquiry based science along with reading and writing within each unit. The Common Core State Standards for reading and writing and the science grade level content expectations for sixth grade are covered throughout the school year.

    Seventh Grade Science - Seventh grade science is a physical science experience. Students will have the chance to engineer and design roller coasters, learn about potential and kinetic energy and learn how conduction and convection affects us in the real world. Students will explore how waves and energy travel with and without mediums, and will end the year with an introduction to chemical reactions, density of liquids, and learn to use scientific tools safely and correctly.

    Teachers at BCPS enjoy a significant degree of support to facilitate academic achievement for students. Teachers receive robust support and resources from our District to enable student achievement including support with implementing research-based, rigorous curriculum and utilizing assessment data to facilitate instruction.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Develops and maintains long range and daily instructional plans.

    2. Develops engaging, student-centered programming

    3. Develops healthy self-esteem in students.

    4. Ensures that all substitutes have lesson plans.

    5. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provides progress reports as required and communicates with parents as deemed necessary. 6. Serves on building and district committees that develop curriculum and enhance instruction.

    7. Maintains records for such things as student attendance, evaluations, report cards, discipline records and documents required by the School Board or Board of Education using prescribed formats.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with DI or DX Endorsement

    Documented proof of ability to meet all State and National requirements for teaching secondary science classroom(s).

    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and cultivate positive relationships with students

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Demonstrated passion for introducing children to the world of scientific discoveries

    Experience teaching in an urban school district

    Deep understanding of the nuanced needs of low-income student populations, and trauma-informed teaching practices and restorative justice
