Family Preservation Specialist - Battle CreekSUMMARYProvides direct in-home services to families where abuse or neglect has been investigated or investigated and substantiated. Services are directed at keeping the family intact and avoiding further abuse or neglect by teaching parenting skills, home management, nutrition and coping skills or accelerate the early return home of youth in out-of-home placement. Services also include intensive individualized parent coaching during supervised family visits for parents whose child(ren) have been in out of home placement to receive increased supportive services in preparation for, and after each visit.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Responsibilities associated with this job will change from time to time according to the Agency's needs or contract. More specifically, the incumbent may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from those described below:Exemplifies and adheres to the Agency Values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Empowerment.Provides in-home education and support for families in crisis.Teaches families parenting skills, home management skills, coping skills, and skills for living or Coach/mentor parent during supervised parenting time and utilize the Nurturing Parent curriculum to promote parenting skills and age appropriate developmental intervention.Accepts and manages referrals to maintain yearly number of units.Conducts Assessments and writes Service Plans, Progress Reports, and a Termination Report for all cases.Develops visitation time plans and goals and weekly action plans, and completes Parenting time Observation Logs weekly for foster care cases.Writes case notes and completes other documentation on all cases with files at least 98% complete at all times and available upon request.Attends Agency mandated trainings and other program trainings as required.Works flexible schedule with some non-traditional hours (evenings, weekends, holidays) to accommodate family schedule.Transports clients as needed.Communicate with the referring worker weekly through telephone contact, written reports and attendance at Family Team Meetings and Court testimony when necessary.Collaborates with community organizations to access goods and services for clients.This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support 1) culturally competent, recovery-based practices; 2) person-centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his/her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and 3) a trauma informed culture to aid individuals in their recovery process.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • EmpowermentPHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to stay calm in emotionally charged situations and to problem-solve in crisis situations is required. The ability to negotiate goals with clients and workers is critical. The ability to understand and constructively interact with other agencies and the legal system is important.The noise level is usually moderate.While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to travel to all areas within Calhoun County. Must be able to transport clients in own vehicle. A small percentage of home visits may need to be made in the evening, on weekends, or holidays. The employee must be able to climb stairs and enter home environments that may be cluttered or present other physical obstacles. The employee must be able to visually assess the safety of the environment and the physical well-being of children in the home. There may be exposure to dust, cigarette smoke, pet dander, and other typical household conditions.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
