Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year in ICU required. License: Valid RN license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required. Must-Have: Experience with high acuity patients and ability to float to other units. Description: Position requirements include the ability to work with both ICU and PCU patients. Experience with a patient ratio of 1:1 to 4 based on acuity is necessary. The unit manages a mix of PCU and general medical/transfer status patients. Ventilator patients will typically have a 2:1 ratio. High acuity patients will be assigned a 1:1 ratio. Floating to other ICU and Med Surg units will be required as needed. Typical nurse to patient ratios in Med Surg areas are approximately 5-6 patients per RN. Patients commonly present with diagnoses such as COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib. Special procedures include CRRT, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement. Essential skills include: - Cardiac monitoring and emergency response. - Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias. - IV insulin protocols. - Care of ventilated patients. - Ventilator management. The unit averages 3 ventilated patients per day. The staffing model allows for flexibility based on patient acuity in the ICU. The environment promotes interdisciplinary support including therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy.
