Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:00) Experience: Minimum of 1 year in ICU required. New graduates are welcome. License: Valid Michigan RN license required. Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIHSS required. Must-Have: Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency response skills. Ability to interpret/manage dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure. Experience with IV insulin protocols, GI surgery, chronic/acute renal failure, blood product administration, and ventilated patient care. Description: This position requires a Registered Nurse specialized in the Intensive Care Unit. The nurse will work a night shift, three times per week. Patient ratios will depend on acuity and may vary from 1:1 to 4:1. The unit cares for both ICU and Progressive Care Unit patients. Nurses will float to other ICU and med-surg units as needed based on census. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib. The unit performs various special procedures, including CRRT, A-Line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement. The nurse's responsibilities include managing ventilated patients, assisting with BiPAP and CPAP, and interpreting arterial blood gas results. Nurses will also manage and administer continuous IV sedation and emergency medications. Strong communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams are essential for this role. The average daily census is approximately 15 patients, primarily adults and geriatrics. Nurses must be able to float to med-surg areas when needed, with typical ratios of about 5-6 patients per nurse. The unit is supported by various services, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced environment and have experience managing critical care patients.
