Role Summary The CAD/Product Engineer is responsible for design of product, tooling, fixtures and manufacturing equipment/facilities at CCMi This position mandates you to wear Personal Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hats, & and that all jewelry will be removed while on production/manufacturing floor. --Daily, for short periods of time you could be working around extreme high temperatures (ranging from 1100 - 1350 -- F/ 270C).   • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to evaluate product designs and produce summary reports to support engineering and quoting activities
  • Utilize product data management system to maintain CAD data for products, tooling, fixtures, manufacturing equipment and facilities
  • Produce 2D product, tooling, fixture, equipment, and facility drawings to support manufacturing, quality, and engineering activities
  • Transfer CAD data to and from suppliers and customers, and maintain records of all transfers. Import CAD data from suppliers and customers, and repair errors in models as required. Translate CAD data to neutral file formats as required
  • Support continuous improvement activities through effective use of 3D and 2D CAD to propose product design changes, tooling improvements
  • Design die cast dies: Runner, Cooling, Vacuum systems, etc. to ensure best part quality and optimize yield
  • Design die seals for best vacuum performance and leak prevention--
  • Die Design, Runner & Cooling Design experience
  • Calculate and design cooling system to ensure best part quality and optimal cycle time.
  • Typical designs include: vacuum, seals, hydraulic actuated cores/slides, squeeze cores, jet-cooled cores, etc.
  • Design features that facilitate quick die change.
  • Assist with Die Standards to: 1. Improve production performance (Net Casting Rate), 2. Optimize casting yield and, 3. Minimize tooling costs / good casting.
  • Responsible for improving uptime and reducing maintenance costs of DC & Trim dies. Determine root-cause analysis and implement counter-measures.
  • Analyze die IR images and improve die cooling to improve thermal balance of DC die
  • Utilize 3D FEA, Flow and Solidification analysis to improve designs.
  • Complete understanding of casting tolerances, dimensional capability statistics and GD&T.
  • Maintain master tool drawings. Provide access to Toolroom staff for all tooling maintenance --- minimizing downtime and costs.
  • Calculate tooling clearances based on thermal expansion and minimum flow distances.
  • Design poke yokes in tool design to prevent misassemble.-- Key Qualifications/Requirements Must be able to understand written instructions

    • Proficient with 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (SolidWorks and NX) software
    • Microsoft Office suite, MS Project and Minitab (preferred)
    • Skills
    • Skilled in using Microsoft Office suite, MS Project and Minitab (preferred)
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Abilities--
    • Work in a fast paced working environment
    • Die Design, Runner & Cooling Design experience
    • Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD
    • Lean Manufacturing background & Six Sigma preferred--
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
